The Daily Telegraph carries another story chronicling the infantile bleatings of President Chavez (freely and fairly elected, Jimmy Carter said so).

Quite why we haven't yet had this boy popped in the middle of the night is beyond me. Ties to Iran? Do we need anything more than that?

It has struck me that there is not a whole lot of difference between how Tony Blair and Vladimir Putin govern.

Both create endless fiefdoms peopled by their cronies and beholden to their masters for ongoing financial patronage. Both are authoritarian, vindictive and dismissive of their elective bodies, both gerrymander and machinate to create structural electoral advantages, and both capitalize on the stupidity and apathy of their electorates to stay in power.

NuLabour's latest legislation reform proposal is nothing short of constitutional vandalism.

This is insane. To believe that President Bush has suddenly gone soft on national security (his single safe haven, politically speaking) is absurd.

This is about knee-jerk protectionism, and an uninformed public. Dubai is about the most capitalist place on earth, they only want our money, they do not want to be obliterated. As they would be if a terror attack was ever launched through a company owned by their government.

The management of the company is all Americans and Brits, as with almost every business in that region - they don’t want to do any actual work (in general, there are of course exceptions), so Arab positions in businesses there tend to be titular in nature, without real responsibilities.

I’m more pissed off that the Chinese Communists appear to own Long Beach California, than concerned about Dubai Ports World running a couple of container hubs that were already managed by a foreign firm. From a country that spawned ALL of the 7/7 Tube Bombers in London no less!! Gasp, those Brits, they can’t be trusted!!

The anti crowd have been suckered into this overblown reaction by shrill self-interested nobodies like Peter King (who knows a bit about terrorism through his unstinting support for the IRA), and Hillary Clinton, who is simply a bought-and-paid-for spokeswoman for the Longshoreman’s Union.

Goodness me, something I never thought I'd see - an adult and well-reasoned editorial in the LA Times, pointing out some simple truths about the Dubai Ports World deal, AND sticking it to the world's dumbest politician (Barbara Boxer) to boot!!
